## Algebraic Thinking

**Algebraic Thinking:**
(similar to last year's "Algebra and Functions" category, but with a focus on algebraic thinking/reasoning)

Team test in which each team will answer 8-10 Algebra questions, with most problems being word problems or logic puzzles, in which students must show as much work as possible (diagrams, charts, etc.), as partial credit will be given for some problems

CCS Mathematical Practices:

Use appropriate tools strategically

Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them

## Geometry

**Geometry:**
(similar to last year's "Mathematical Reasoning" category, but with a focus on problems involving applications of Geometry)

Team test with 20-25 word problems involving Geometry in which students must show as much work as possible (diagrams, charts, etc.), as partial credit will be given for some problems

CCS Mathematical Practices:

Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them

Look for and make use of structure

## Number and Operations

**Number and Operations:**
(same type of sub-contests/scoring as in previous years' "Number Sense" category)

Combination of team "Estimation Station" activities (counts for 40% of score) and individual 40-question "Mental Math" questions (counts for 60% of score)

CCS Mathematical Practices:

Reason abstractly and quantitatively

Attend to precision

## Measurement

**Measurement:**
(same type of contests as in previous years' "Measurement and Geometry" category)

Activity in which teams will be asked to build an object using materials provided; students must sketch their construction prior to building, then test it, with multiple trials (object is judged using a rubric)

CCS Mathematical Practices:

Model with mathematics

Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others

## Data Analysis

**Data Analysis: **
(similar to last year's "Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability" category, however, there will be no questions involving Probability)

Team test in which teams will answer about 5-8 questions relating to Data Analysis/Statistics, including conducting an experiment, predicting results, gathering data, and analyzing the experiment based on their outcomes

CCS Mathematical Practices:

Reason abstractly and quantitatively

Look for express regularity in repeated reasoning
