Math Field Day is an opportunity for Orange County Elementary Schools to join together in promoting excellence in mathematics, team work, achieving goals, and school spirit.
Math Field Day is an all-day math competition for students in Grade 4, 5, and 6 sponsored by the Orange County Math Council (OCMC). A school can have only one team (4 team members) per grade level participating. Most schools hold try-outs and have practice sessions for their teams.
The Math Field Day competition categories are:
Number and Operations
To find out more, please visit the Competition Categories page. Olympic-style medals are awarded to the top 5 teams for each grade level for each category. All kids get "goodie bags" of prizes from community donations.
Orange County Math Council has now sponsored the OC Math Field Day for 28 years!

Use the resources listed below to start practicing!
-During the competition, participants MAY NOT remove the staples from the test packets. Participants are encouraged to work together with one sheet at a time.
-ALL work MUST be completed on the test packets. Scratch paper WILL NOT be provided and will not be collected as part of the "show your work" portion of the tests.
-Each Mental Math expression is shown for 5 seconds followed by a blank "thinking" screen for 5 seconds.
-Participants MUST do all work in their heads. Any work done on the answer sheet will result in disqualification from that test.
-The actual Mental Math test is 40 questions. The SAMPLE is only 20 questions. Coaches can modify the PowerPoint to create additional Mental Math practices for their teams.
-Participants are encouraged to make a strikethrough line or X on an answer line if they are unable to answer within the allotted 10 seconds. This ensures that the subsequent answers are placed on the correct answer line. Test judges will grade the tests exactly as they are submitted.
-This answer sheet is nearly identical to the official test answer sheet.
